Privacy Policy

1. Controller

The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is: Rene Süß, Barbarossastraße 91, 09112 Chemnitz, Germany. Email: support@gcng.de, telephone: +49 151 55386821.

No data protection officer has been appointed.

2. Scope

This policy covers the Mühlewerk app for iPhone and iPad and this website at gcng.de/muehlewerk/.

3. Principle: no servers of our own, no accounts of our own

Mühlewerk has no backend. There is no sign-in, no user account and no database held by the provider. The app computes entirely on the device and transmits no game, usage or device data to a provider server — there is none.

Where data does leave the device, it does so solely through Apple services you switch on yourself: Game Center, for online games, leaderboards and achievements. Apple is the controller for that.

4. What Mühlewerk stores on your device

Stored in the app's protected area on your device: finished games with mode, difficulty, the opponent's name for online games, start and end, outcome and the full run of moves; and five settings — sound, vibration, game aids, appearance, and whether the introduction has been shown.

This data does not leave the device. The provider has no access to it.

5. History, statistics and rating

Statistics, rating and achievements are not separate stores of data; they are worked out from the history each time you open them. Delete a game and it disappears from every number derived from it.

The rating for online games is worked out on the device. It is not an official, tamper-proof ranking, and the app says so. The opponent's rating is not transmitted.

6. Game Center and online games

Online games, matchmaking and invitations run through Game Center, a service provided by Apple. Using it is optional; without Game Center the computer opponents, two-player games at one device, the history, replay, statistics and the introduction all remain fully usable.

If you sign in to Game Center, Apple processes the data required for it as its own controller — in particular your Game Center identifier and the display name you chose there. It would be wrong to claim that no data is collected in the process: Apple collects it, under Apple's terms and Apple's privacy policy.

The app itself receives the other side's display name from Game Center and stores it with the finished game in the local history, so that it remains visible who the game was against. During a game, only moves and checksums of the position are exchanged between the two devices, carried by Game Center. No address book, location or device data is transmitted.

7. Leaderboards and achievements

If you are signed in to Game Center, Mühlewerk reports your score for two leaderboards (online wins and online rating) and the progress of the achievements to Game Center after a finished game. Apple processes these values and associates them with your Game Center profile. Nothing is reported if you are not signed in.

8. The App Store

Apple handles purchase, installation and updates through the App Store. The provider receives no personal purchaser data from Apple, only aggregated sales and usage statistics without any personal reference. Mühlewerk contains no in-app purchases and no subscription.

9. Device backup and iCloud

If you back up your device to iCloud or locally, the backup may include the local app data. That is carried out by Apple or by your computer; the provider is not involved and has no access to such backups.

10. No advertising, no tracking, no analytics of our own

Mühlewerk contains no advertising networks, no tracking SDKs, no third-party analytics and no usage analysis of its own. No tracking takes place across devices or providers, and no advertising identifiers are used or read.

11. This website and its server logs

This website is static. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics tools, no tracking, and loads no fonts, scripts or other resources from third-party servers.

When the site is accessed, technically necessary access data is processed. This includes in particular the IP address, the time of access, the page requested and technical information about the browser or device used. The IP address is stored in full; it is neither truncated nor anonymised. The processing serves the secure and reliable provision of the website, error analysis, and the detection and prevention of misuse and attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Access logs are deleted regularly and generally kept for no more than about 35 days. Technical error logs may be kept for longer for error analysis and to secure operations, but for no more than about eleven weeks. Where security-relevant events are processed separately, the shorter retention periods defined for them technically apply.

No processor is engaged for the operation of this website. No personal data is transferred to third countries for the operation of the website.

12. Contact by email

If you make contact by email, the information transmitted — in particular the email address and the content of the message — is processed in order to deal with the enquiry. Hosting and email service providers may act as processors in the technical provision and delivery of email.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the communication serves the performance or initiation of a contractual relationship, and otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in dealing with general enquiries).

13. Retention and deletion

The data stored in the app stays on your device until you delete it. Individual games can be removed in the history; all app data is removed by deleting the app. The provider has no access to this data and can therefore neither disclose nor delete it.

The periods given in section 11 apply to this website's server logs. Messages from a contact enquiry are deleted once the enquiry has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations or other legitimate grounds prevent deletion. Apple's periods apply to data processed by Apple.

14. Your rights

Where personal data is processed, you have, subject to the statutory conditions, in particular the right of access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing, and where applicable the right to data portability and to object. You may withdraw any consent given at any time with effect for the future.

These rights may be asserted against the provider for the data the provider actually processes — that is, this website's server logs and the content of a contact enquiry.

As Mühlewerk operates no user accounts or servers of its own, the provider holds no personal game or usage data that could be associated with a user account or deleted from a server of its own. You remove locally stored app data yourself, as described in section 13.

For data processed by Apple in connection with Game Center or the App Store, the corresponding rights exist against Apple, in so far as Apple is the controller.

For questions about data protection you can write to support@gcng.de.

15. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for the controller is in particular the Saxon Data Protection and Transparency Commissioner, Maternistraße 17, 01067 Dresden, Germany.

16. Changes to this policy

If the way the app or this website works changes, this policy will be adjusted. The version published here at the time applies.
